Photoshop Tutorial
Hi Everyone, it’s Tiffany with InspiredbyDominic Designs. This is a simple, yet still very important tutorial for both scrappers and designers. This tutorial was created with the beginning scrapper or designer in mind.
While designing or scrapping you will sometimes find it usuful to add a bevel to an element, alpha, title, or paper. It’s possible you may not know how to do this or if you do know how to do this you may not know how to adjust the settings to make your bevel more realistic. In fact, it is very simple to change the default bevel settings and just a tiny change will make a large difference in the realism of your layout or element. Just follow these easy steps.
1. Once you have your item that you would like to bevel open click on the layer styles button and click “Bevel and Emboss.”
2. From here you can see what the default settings of you bevel looks like and how harsh the shadows and highlights appear.
3. Thankfully it is very simple to make the above unrealistic bevel look more realistic. Click on the black colored box next to shadow mode, then click on your item to pull the basic color of the item. I usually make it slightly darker and then close the color box. Next click on the white box next to highlight mode. Again click on your item for the basic color and I usually make it slightly lighter. Close the color box. As you see this quick and simple change makes a HUGE difference to how the object looks.
4. Finally, you can adjust the structure settings shown below to make your bevel smaller or larger.
That’s all there is to it for this quick lesson. I hope it’s helped you with your scrapping or designing!
